Character Age: 18
Character Species: Human/Sleeper (everyone who was in Trench found themselves altered, complete with their blood changing)
Current Health: Tory is a young adult in good health, who engages in regular vigorous exercise

Character Canon: Cobra Kai
Link to History: Wiki
Canon Point: End of season 5
Canon Iteration: CRAU (Deer Country)
Canon Iteration Explanation: Tory originally was brought into the world of Trench (Deer Country) at the end of season 4 of Cobra Kai and later received a canon update. Due to the blood type powers Tory received (Darkblood), it forced Tory to further work on her anger management, meditate, and work to achieve balance in order to not have regular accidents with her newfound abilities. They also allowed her to experience the feeling of having enough and being able to be generous with others

★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: Tory is a capable and athletic martial artist. She’s also a good caregiver, having taken care of her severely ill mother and her younger brother. She’s a decent cook, and knows how to manage household expenses on a budget. She also has a pleasant singing voice.

Canon Abilities: In Cobra Kai canon, Tory is a regular human with a natural aptitude for martial arts. In her CRAU canon, Tory gained powers as a Sleeper, which include low-level reality warping and telekinesis. The low-level reality warping involves object manifestation, where she can produce objects by focusing on them (for example, she could make herself a pair of shoes from thin air) and event reversal, where she can reverse a specific thing such as a recently broken bone on someone’s body. Her telekinesis began at a maximum of 100 pounds but with practice and work over the course of a year, she grew strong enough to lift up to 200 pounds with it.

Role: Legend

Role Qualities/Attributes: Tory will have intangible wings made of golden light, although she will be able to will them to become invisible. She will be able to sense when someone is in need nearby. Her Sleeper powers will be strongest when she is using them to help others. When she is using them in malicious ways, they will be much weaker. When she's using them to meet her basic needs (such as using object manifestation to make herself warm clothing when appearing in a cold place), they will be neutral and work as normal.

Role Reasoning: Although Tory initially starts off in Cobra Kai as being more suitable for Myth, she is shown to be quite hard working, loyal and dedicated to her loved ones, working two jobs while trying to complete her education so that she can put food on the table for her mother and brother. When she discovers that her winning the All Valley tournament was because of bribery, she confronts her sensei, Terry Silver. She later skips out on a match that she knows has been similarly rigged, refusing to participate in cheating. Despite that costing her dearly (the Cobra Kai senseis refuse to let her leave the dojo until she smashes her fist through solid stone), she chooses to do the right thing once more and helps to expose Terry Silver as a fraud. She even buries the hatchet with her karate rival in the process, working together on a mutual goal. Legend fits because she has consciously made better and more honorable choices and redeemed herself.

★ Personality ★

Option 2. Choose FOUR-FIVE of the following questions to answer and expand upon. You may choose a fifth question if you feel it is integral to your character's personality. Each answer has a 100-300 word requirement.

OPTION 2 QUESTIONS (PICK 4-5) 100-300 WORD LIMIT EACH:

  • What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?

  • Tory's most traumatic experience was being forced to punch solid stone with her bare fist, with five karate masters refusing to allow her to leave until she succeeded. Although her loyalties had been straying from Cobra Kai ever since her preferred sensei, John Kreese, had been framed by her other sensei, Terry Silver, this was the final straw. Leading up to it, all her efforts to help Kreese felt like they were for nothing, as he told her that he was giving up on trying to get out of jail. Her relationship with her boyfriend, Robby Keene, had been strained and ended due to her staying in the dojo. After the brutal punishment, all the present senseis were remorseless about it. One said "Your hand will heal in time for the tournament", only caring that she could continue to fight for the dojo, and Terry Silver commented that Tory breaking up with her boyfriend because of Cobra Kai was the right choice, and stated "Let's hope you continue to make the right choices from now on" with an implied threat to it.

Being treated like this helped to push Tory to stand up for what was right, make amends with her former rival, Sam LaRusso, and get back together with Robby.

  • What experience challenged your character's core beliefs? How did they handle this or change from it?

  • Initially, Tory fit so well with the Cobra Kai dojo’s philosophy of “Strike first, strike hard, no mercy” because it matched her personal belief system and experiences. When Tory was a child, a formative moment that established this mindset was when her mother lost her waitressing job for bringing food home to Tory and her younger brother, even though it was food that was only going to be thrown out.

The kindness Tory received from Amanda LaRusso really shifted Tory’s views. Despite what Tory had done to Amanda’s daughter Sam (Tory’s karate rival), when Amanda found out that Tory had no father around, her mother was severely ill and dying, and that Tory was trying to take care of her family, Amanda showed her kindness. She brought her groceries, helped her get back into school, and arranged for a social worker to come and take care of Tory's mother and brother to help alleviate some of the stress on Tory. It made Tory determined to fight Sam honorably and fairly in the All Valley tournament, and she refused to cheat when Terry Silver ordered her to.

  • What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?

  • Tory is very loyal and hard working. She takes pride in being the one to take care of her family. This attitude translates to also wanting to earn her victories instead of achieving them through dishonest bribery. The "strike first, strike hard, no mercy" philosophy of Cobra Kai initially resonates with her as someone who has struggled and grown up in poverty, seeing the world as a difficult and unfair place where some people have things just handed to them while others have to fight for everything the have. She has grown to appreciate the value of kindness and compassion, but she's never lost the drive to work and fight for things.

  • If you could give your character a Taylor Swift playlist, which songs would be on it and what would they represent about your character?

  • Shake It Off Tory’s devil may care, party girl side. She is bold, direct, sarcastic, unafraid of a challenge, and doesn’t care much about rules.
Change Tory has struggled with poverty her entire life and struggles to take care of her ailing mother and younger brother. Despite this, she doesn’t give up and pushes herself to get her education while working two jobs.
-Bad Blood Tory has anger issues and can hold a grudge.
-Anti Hero Tory recognizes that she’s made some bad choices and had initially placed the blame on people she saw as enemies
-Vigilante Shit A big part of Tory’s redemption arc centers around helping to take down Terry Silver, some of which involves sneaking around, delivering anonymous information to help lead people to clues, and training in his dojo while plotting against him.

  • Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?

  • Tory is someone who doesn't forget either a cut or a kindness, and it takes quite a lot to change her mind. On one hand, it makes her very loyal and dedicated to the people who've earned it from her. On the other hand, it means that she will get intensely competitive and even ruthless with someone who has crossed her. She is still capable of forgiveness and change, and having anger management therapy has helped her considerably with learning to let things go and moving forward. She's also able to recognize when someone is making an honest effort to make amends, and understands from personal experience that it's difficult.
